Description

LOT. 618 SIDE HENLEY NECK SHIRT

The shirt is based on wool jersey underwear of the 1940s.
Underwear of the time often featured front openings, known as Henley neck, to compensate for the lack of elasticity. The opening is slightly shifted to the side because it was worn under a front-opening shirt so that the openings do not overlap each other. A self-fabric lining reinforces the back of the neckline. The jersey fabric is characterized by its natural unevenness. The yarns, reviving the ragged texture of the time when it was technically impossible to spin smooth and uniform yarns, is woven tightly.
The cuffs reproduce the circular knitting double-layered rib typically found on undershirts from the 1910s.
