During the postwar economic boom of the 1950s, zippers became widely adopted across various garments. At the time, loopwheel-knitted fleece offered substantial weight and structure but lacked elasticity, which was often compensated for by adding gussets at the front or both front and back. Alongside such functional developments, zippers quickly gained popularity. The collared design of the reference piece was constructed with a single layer rather than a double structure like a shirt, allowing for efficient production and a natural, relaxed curl after washing. Lot.621 is based on this historical reference, with its sleeves cut off from Lot.611 Half Zip Sweat Shirt to create a sleeveless variation. The fleece fabric is tubular and slowly knitted on a traditional loopwheel machine—one of the few still in operation today in Wakayama, Japan. Originally introduced during the Taisho period, the machine produces only about one meter per hour, but this inefficiency yields a fabric rich in texture and gentle irregularity, as if air itself has been knit into the surface. Made from USA cotton, the fabric has a dry hand and distinctive character. By blending it with top-dyed cotton, a pronounced mélange appearance is achieved. The zipper pull is custom-made, featuring original engraved lines in the Art Deco style commonly seen in the 1920s.
