Description

LOT.327 MODIFIED SHAWL COLLAR JACKET

During times of urgent demand, the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) occasionally repurposed military surplus. This jacket is based on a World War I tunic, reimagined with key alterations. Notably, the chest pocket has been removed, and a shawl collar—seemingly added as an afterthought—creates a sense of imbalance that defines the piece. It is believed that this kind of collar was also intended to soften the military impression, particularly for younger wearers.

While the original reference was made of wool, this version uses a blended fabric of Japanese wahi paper and cotton, producing a lightweight construction with the dry, textured feel distinctive to vintage garments. The jacket is offered in two colors, each garment-dyed by hand using traditional sumi ink and mud-dyeing techniques.
